The Level One Facilities Maintenance certificate provides a comprehensive guide to basic maintenance services and tasks essential for the upkeep of commercial, residential, and industrial facilities. What You Can Do

General maintenance and repair workers fix and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, and buildings. They paint, repair flooring, and work on plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning and heating systems.

The Facilities Level 1 Technician Program is a minimum of 18 credit hours. Please use our Tuition and Fees page to calculate your approximate cost.

Safety glasses (2pair 1 shaded 1 clear)

Face shield (optional)
Welding helmet when brazing or welding (if applicable)
Closed toe shoes (no sandals or open toe shoes)
Try to avoid metal rings and necklaces when working with electrical and machinery

Tool bags are preference of students but required to house all tools. Recommended tool bag is a backpack or other portable tool pouch.

An optional drill/driver is also highly recommended for HVAC field work and courses. Drills can be impact driver/drill and should include a standard bit set. (1/4鈥�,5/16鈥�,3/8鈥� bit)

Note: Since this is a hand-on training program, tools are preferred ASAP when class starts. This will enhance learning and increase employment opportunities.

Most of following tools can all be purchased locally from 3 HVAC wholesalers or independent hardware/lumber stores. Locally there is Carterville Winair, Crescent supply, and 51吃瓜stone supply. Special refrigeration and metal tools will need to be purchased from a local HVAC wholesaler. Also, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, and Menards will have what you need in regards to hand tools. . Competitive prices are also offered online.

1. Perform Basic Building Maintenance and Repairs

Demonstrate the ability to complete routine tasks such as painting, patching drywall, and minor carpentry work, ensuring a clean and functional environment.

2. Conduct Basic Plumbing Tasks

Identify and repair minor plumbing issues, including fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and maintaining faucets and fixtures, to ensure proper water system functionality.

3. Maintain and Troubleshoot Electrical Systems

Safely replace light bulbs, outlets, switches, and perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs to ensure safe operation of lighting and electrical systems.

4. Complete Routine HVAC Maintenance

Perform essential HVAC maintenance tasks such as changing air filters, cleaning vents, and performing basic inspections to maintain efficient heating and cooling systems.

5. Ensure Workplace Safety and Compliance

Identify potential safety hazards, adhere to safety protocols, and apply basic compliance measures to maintain a safe working environment in a facility.
