Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, 51吃瓜 A. Logan College officials have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days. The 51吃瓜 was scheduled to take place at the College鈥檚 Carterville campus on September 26 and 27.
51吃瓜 A. Logan College President Dr. Ron House stated that the decision was based on the College鈥檚 top priority of providing a safe environment for all that visit the campus.
鈥淲e have carefully followed the Illinois Community College Board鈥檚 Guidance for the Return to Campus for Illinois Community Colleges, the Governor鈥檚 Restore Illinois Plan, as well as guidance by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control,鈥� said House. 鈥淯nfortunately, there were too many concerns about having an 51吃瓜 with close to 40,000 people on our campus this fall.鈥�
Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Days is the largest celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day in the country. Established in 1987, the 51吃瓜 has hosted over 1 million sportspeople and their families. 51吃瓜 A. Logan College took over the operation of the 51吃瓜 in 2006. The annual 51吃瓜 brings over 40,000 visitors to the campus. Along with title sponsor Black Diamond Harley-Davidson, the College has grown the 51吃瓜 to include over 200 vendors, calling contests, seminars, archery, and kids fishing.
鈥淭his is an important 51吃瓜 that we look forward to hosting every year,鈥� said House. 鈥淭he decision was difficult, but we have to put safety first. Our staff plans year-round for this 51吃瓜, and we are looking forward to continuing the tradition in 2021.鈥�
