At JALC, Practical Nursing is the first year, and Associate Degree Nursing is the second year. Students must complete an accredited Practical Nursing Program and obtain an Illinois LPN license before entering the Associate Degree Nursing Program at JALC. These programs are not the same and require a separate application.
JALC has several ways to pursue a competitive, high-demand career in nursing. The nursing program structure has a unique design. JALC has three stand-alone nursing programs: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Practical Nursing (PN), and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN).
The Certified Nurse Assistant program at JALC is designed to prepare the student to provide basic nursing care. The CNA program is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The student who completes this course is eligible to take the required Nurse Aide Competency Examination to be placed on the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry. CNA courses are offered multiple times a semester. For Certified Nurse Assistant program information, please contact Testing Services at (618) 985-2828 Ext. 8520 or email testingservices@jalc.edu.
JALC offers two options to complete the Practical Nurse certificate. The Practical Nursing program is a two-semester, full-time or five-semester, part-time certificate program that allows the graduate to sit for NCLEX-PN state board licensure and achieve a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). For PN program information, please contact Susan Phillips at susanphillips@jalc.edu or (618) 985-2828 Ext. 8497.
JALC offers an option to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). All prospective associate degree nursing students must successfully complete a certificate program for practical nursing first. They must also apply to the ADN program, show completion of chemistry with lab or microbiology with lab with a grade of C or higher, and possess a valid Illinois LPN licensure to be accepted. The ADN program is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
JALC offers three options to complete the second year of nursing. The Associate Degree program offers a two-semester, full-time or four-semester, part-time curriculum delivered in a traditional, face-to-face format. JALC also offers a unique Hybrid Associate Degree Nursing option for eligible candidates. The Hybrid ADN degree is a four-semester program that delivers course content in an online format with weekly lab sessions on campus and face-to-face clinical experiences in local healthcare facilities. Upon completion of the Associate Degree requirements, nursing graduates can sit for NCLEX-RN state board licensure and achieve a career as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN). For Associate Degree program information, please contact Susan Phillips at susanphillips@jalc.edu or (618) 985-2828 Ext. 8497.
